Outrage in numbers allows you to stand with the mob without actually contributing to the cause.  It affords you the freedom to bask in the moment while never having to stand alone in the spotlight.  You reap the rewards while avoiding the scrutiny.  Yet before the internet age activism was truly active.  The problem with modern activism is that posts and retweets have replaced pickets and sit ins.  It is said that if you stand for nothing you will fall for anything but surely standing for everything won’t get you anywhere either.
